Forest Gallops

Hey everyone, back from my hols and stoked to be out on the trails with the woofers again! Today it was Jayda, Kayla, and Skipper joining me for some awesome spring forest gallops...only a few snow patches now so we went everywhere - it's amazing how much faster travel is with solid rock and dirt underfoot, awesome! Here are today's shots:
Starting out
enjoying a good 'ol sniff...
...then a swim...
...then off we galloped - literally. I had spent the previous day cooped up in a plane fidgeting next to my husband while we crossed the Atlantic so was more than ready for a rage!
spring forests sure smell good
who wants a treat..wait, was that a squirrel squeaking  Jayda?!

Skipper takes a gander at one of the many random jumps made in the forest around Parkhurst..looks fun, def have to come back on my bike!

...will need some speed to clear this one!

Then it was time to climb up and onward, we took a left out of the Parkhurst trail and pretty much felt like we carried on the Green River trail almost to Whistler! It was lovely, I'm tempted for a full day with them to do just that if anyone else wants to come along!
Skip and Jayda enjoy a brief roll in a patch of spring snoo
...then time for home, the dogs seem to be telling me to hurry up as I had slowed to a walk. Think I will wear my running shoes next hike and keep going...then we'll see who's tongues are lolling at the end of it! The woofers seemed full of energy today and galloped round and round as we made our way down to the truck, raging with each other and at the squeaks of small furry animals that teased them from the trees. I one point I stopped and stretched out for a couple of minutes...Kayla chucked sticks and fir cones on my head (I carried one all the way home in my hood ha h a!) and Skip and Jayda licked my face and asked if I was ok on the ground...dogs are so funny , love them :)
See ya next hike, arooooooOOOOOOoooo!

Happy Dogs and Whistler DogFestival 2010!

This past weekend was the 2010 Whistler Dogfestival! It was a success in raising funds for WAG- Whistler Animals Galore!
It rained, it got sunny, it got windy...but the people still came and enjoyed the festivities! We had a barbecue, silent auctions, raffles, baked goods, and tons of entertainment! Canine Energy hosted the DNA testing at our booth which was a huge success. We also raffled off a 20 min tour with Blackcomb Aviation and Emanuella from Farfalla won that exciting trip! Thanks to everyone that came out to support our shelter!
Below are some photos of the last couple days- we've been pre-occupied with the festival so not too many photos of the hikes but more will come! Stay tuned!

Happy, tired dogs!

Awesome Sunday!

This is Emma! Our newest member to the group. Today was a great day with just the 3 of us. A good 3 1/2 hr hike, short snooze and swimming at 2 lakes. Awesome!

I'm pretty sure Emma doesn't get to see the snow that much because it was like Christmas for her. We hit a super tiny patch on the way up shortly after getting out of the truck and there she is rolling and digging. Life is so simple!

Obviously couldn't wait to hit the water either!

This shot is kinda cool- almost like Jayda is put in after. Not sure how I did that but it's cool!

Not too sure about this either. Had to take a photo- I'm a Horticulturist and I am unfamiliar with what is going on here with the bark on this tree. The only one in the area. Strange...sad too...

Look at how proud Emma is! This is a true working dog! Stamina, focus, lean, automatically scenting, listens, assertive, quiet and wants to work soooooo bad. She even had no trouble at all climbing through the boulders around loggers lake...love to get this dog doing some disaster work or searching in the bush! Maybe next time Emma!

Alpha Lake...

A Message To You Ruuuudy!

Any Specials fans out there...? Well I thought I would pay tribute to the Rudy-Rudester as he and his family head home today. We will miss him so much!! Rudy is such a good boy, suuuuuper fun to hang out with and the most polite treat taker ever - he delicately lips the treat out of your fingers as gently as he can! He is also a super cool pack dog raging and playing well with the others. His parents say he waits excitedly by the front door for us on hike days, and whenever we go fetch him his happy little face is such a pleasure to see as he skitters up to the truck with a big doggy grin on his face :) - what better welcome than a dog welcome eh? So safe travels home Rudy and family, we look forward to seeing you again soon, and thank you so much for our gifts Rudy, we really appreciate it and it's lovely to have a card with you on it gracing our office! Here are some of Rudy's best shots...woof woof arooooooooo!

We have had so much fun in sunshine, rain, snow, howling winds, in beautiful forests, mountain vistas, creeks lakes and pools :)
I love this shot of them approaching the bridge..they seemed a little tentative at first then trotted over happily once I had proved it was safe..I also love Rudy's hind legs - little furry jodhpurs!!

See you next time Rudy! xxxxx Love all at Canine Energy
